To keep your sterling silver looking elegant and shiny at all times there are a few helpful hints that can save you having to use a lot of elbow grease during cleanings. The best way to store your silver jewellery is in the plastic resealable Dandy Diva packaging provided at the time of purchase. Plastic slows down the oxidization process wich is caused mainly by heat, moisture, perfumes and lotions. A silver cloth or flannel (I have always said "every real woman owns flannel pajamas...perfect for cleaning!) are the best ways to remove tarnish from jewellery by rubbing it gently. Make sure there are no loose stones or parts. Some store bought silver cleaners may harm certain kinds of gemstones, so limit the gemstone's exposure to silver cleaners and always read the cleaning product's instructions before using. If there is excessive tarnish, Dandy Diva recommends "Connoisseurs Jewellery Wipes"also recommended by Good Housekeeping Magazine. These wipes work remarkably fast, just be sure to go back over your newly cleaned silver surface with a dry flannel cloth to remove any solution residue. Never clean silver jewellery with toothpaste or a toothbrush, as both are extremely abrasive to silver and will scratch the surface and make pits in your jewellery, which trap in dirt. Also ladies one of the worst places to keep your beautiful sterling jewels is hanging in the open near your ensuite where moisture and heat from your shower and vents can tarnish your pieces quickly....individually in plastic is still the best method! |
